Nicholas Myra originally from Lyria is celebrated today amongst Orthodox and Catholic Christians and in Romania “Mos Nicolae”, as it is known in Romania is just as big a celebration as Christmas. This saint was known also as Nicholas the Wonderworker, often placing coins in the boots of those who left them behind for him. This tradition is now identified with Santa Claus, and this is why during Christmas the colourful sock is hung up the night before Christmas. Of course if you have been bad, you get a rod! A colourful one though, often with hearts on it. Happy Mos Nicolae dear friends from Romania!
