What are the student visa requirements for Romania?

Citizens arriving from the EU countries, the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), as well as from Canada, Croatia, Japan, Moldavia, South Korea, Switzerland, USA and Yugoslavia are exempt from visa requirements. As a student coming from one of these countries, you can enter the Romanian territory only with a simple customs stamp and you can reside here for up to 90 days.

After this period, your residence permit is to be extended by the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, for periods that shall not exceed one year. This can be done within Romania.

All other nationals are required to apply for a student visa prior to arrival. Student visas are issued 30-90 days within which period the student is required to complete their registration at the university and apply for their student residence permit which is valid for 1 year.

Student visas may take up to 2 months to process and one can only apply for a student visa once the Ministry of Education in Romania has issued the letter of acceptance to study. It’s best to apply early for the letter of acceptance.

    I am a winner of Transilvania academica scholarship 2020 i apply for the student visa a week ago and now i am waiting, with the original acceptance etter which tells that the university will cover the tution fees , accommodation and a monthly stipned of 800 RON.
    I apply also with the supporting documents such as tdavel medical insurance , criminal record , 3×4 cm photos and a passport valid for 4 years.
    So is it reasonable that my visa may be denied !!

      Congratulations! Unfortunately your visa will not be approved unless you receive the original acceptance letter. It is a requirement for non-EU nationals.

    I am a Pakistani national having legal residence permit of Italy. I am currently a full-time student here in Italy. However, I have been accepted on Erasmus at a Romanian University. My confusion is;

    1. Do I need to apply for Romanian Study Visa since I already have valid Italian Residence Permit but I will be staying in Romania for more than 90 days?

    2. If Yes, Could anyone please let me know about the study visa requirements? (Currently I am having following documents in hand: Erasmus scholarship acceptance letter, acceptance letter from Romanian university, Italian Bank account statement, Residence Permit receipt as I have applied for a renewal, valid Passport and Italian Health Insurance).

    Thank you so much in advance.
